President Lee Hai-young, leading the King Sejong Institute Foundation (KSIF), hosted a forum at the National Library of Korea on December 26, 2023 (Tuesday). The event’s theme was “KSI Localizing Strategies for Sustainable Spread of Hallyu - Expansion and Intensification.”
The forum was organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, hosted by KSIF, and sponsored by the Korean Language Institute Council. Professor Kim Ji-hyung of Kyung Hee Cyber University chaired the first part of the seminar, focusing on theme presentations. Three main topics were presented in the order of ▲achievements and tasks of operations of overseas Korean language teacher training programs (Professor Jung Myung-sook, Busan Foreign Language University), ▲education consulting cases for foreign Korean language teachers (Professor Lee Dong-eun, Kookmin University), and ▲research on the Metaverse King Sejong Institute education curriculum and teaching models (Professor Yoon Young, Chonnam National University).
In the second part, insights into the localization status of KSI locations in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia were shared through presentations by Phyllis Wangechi Ndiangui (a teacher at KSI Nairobi, Kenya), Atif Faraz (Director of KSI Islamabad, Pakistan), and Alfiana Amrin Rosyadi (a teacher at KSI Yogyakarta, Indonesia).
Meanwhile, KSIF is actively working to establish a locally oriented, sustainable educational environment. It pursues projects like "KSI Korean Language Teacher Training Programs" and "Consulting for Foreign Korean Language Teachers" to enhance the expertise of Korean language teachers. Additionally, to offer Korean language education anytime, anywhere, KSIF operates the "Metaverse King Sejong Institute.”
President Lee Hai-young of KSIF expressed her commitment, stating, "I will continue to make efforts to enhance the expertise of local Korean language teachers and support education using future media such as the metaverse, with the aim of creating a sustainable Korean language education environment."
