Eight participants share their impressions in relation to the contest and their aspirations for
learning Korean language
On May 22, in celebration of King Sejong's birthday, KSI Saint Petersburg, Russia, hosted the preliminary rounds
of the 2024 KSI Korean Writing Contest. KSI Saint Petersburg hosting the 'Korean Writing' contest for the first
time since its establishment, had a total of eight learners participate in the preliminary rounds of the ‘2024
KSI Korean Writing Contest’, showcasing their honed Korean language skills.
Participants were tasked with writing within a time limit of 40 minutes on one of the themes: 'What I gained
from learning Korean' or 'First Impressions and Image of Korea,' with a required length of 200 to 800
characters.

Officials from KSI Saint Petersburg, the contest organizer, evaluated participants' essays based on the
diversity of content, narrative development, and the thoughts conveyed in the essays.

After the competition, learners shared their impressions and expressed their expectations and aspirations for
learning Korean language. Artemenko Kamilla, who recently obtained a level 2 Korean Language Proficiency
Test(KLPT) certificate, stated, "I participated in the contest to assess my Korean language skills." Grinevich
Elizaveta, who completed the Korean language teacher training course at KSI and recently obtained a level 4 KLPT
certificate, expressed her desire for good results, saying, "Even if there are mistakes, I feel proud." Naumova
Polina, the youngest participant who won third place in the ‘2023 KSI Korean Poetry Recitation Contest’, shared
her impression, saying, "This Korean writing contest was an interesting experience."
The winner from this preliminary round at KSI Saint Petersburg will participate in the '2024 KSI Korean Writing
Contest' main competition, held remotely in July and August, where they will compete in Korean writing skills
with other preliminary winners from KSIs worldwide. Additionally, in October, this outstanding learner will have
the opportunity to join the '2024 KSI Outstanding Learners Invitational Training' in Korea, experiencing Korean
culture firsthand.
