The King Sejong Institute Foundation (President Lee Hai-young, hereafter referred to as the KSIF) has developed
textbooks and video lectures for intermediate and advanced Korean learners aiming for translation and
interpretation training, which are now available on 'Nuri KSI' (https://nuri.iksi.or.kr).

As Korean enterprises expand globally and Korean literature is actively exported worldwide, there is a high
demand for professional translation and interpretation personnel. For instance, Paula Martinez, who translated
the essay collection "I Want to Die but I Want to Eat tteokbokki" into Spanish, which has been published in 25
countries, is an alumna of the KSI Barcelona. As such, there is a growing number of learners at KSIs worldwide
who are looking to build advanced Korean language skills and work professionally in the field of translation and
interpretation.
To meet the increasing demand for translation and interpretation courses, since 2021, KSIF has developed
translation and interpretation courses and materials in 12 languages, and after pilot operation in 37 KSIs
across 15 countries up until last year, the 'Sejong Interpretation and Translation' textbooks were completed.
The textbooks are divided into intermediate level 'Sejong Interpretation and Translation 1' and advanced level
'Sejong Interpretation and Translation 2', available in 12 languages, including Korean.

Furthermore, KSIF has also developed "video lectures for training translation and interpretation instructors"
utilizing the 〈Sejong Interpretation and Translation〉 textbooks, now available on 'Nuri KSI'. Comprising
28 sessions, these video lectures enhance understanding of interpretation and translation overall and include
strategies for classroom management using the textbooks. They are divided into 'General' and 'Individual'
parts. The General part consists of 16 sessions covering interpretation, translation, and teaching methods
using the textbooks, while the Individual part includes 12 sessions offering teaching methods through mock
lessons in 12 languages. Additionally, a handbook* summarizing the guidelines for managing mock lessons in 12
languages is provided as supplementary educational material in the Individual part.

A teacher from the KSI Thai Nguyen, Vietnam, who participated in the pilot operation of the translation and
interpretation course last year, remarked, "The pilot operation of the translation and interpretation course
greatly enhanced the Korean language skills of KSI learners. The textbooks, which deal with actual translation
and interpretation scenarios, are practical, and I hope they continue to be actively utilized."
President Lee Hai-young of KSIF stated, “I believe the 〈Sejong Interpretation and Translation〉 textbooks
and
instructor video lectures will serve as a solid foundation for training and securing Korean language
translation and interpretation personnel worldwide," and expressed her determination, "KSIF will continue to
carefully assess the diverse demands for Korean language learning and strive to provide high-quality
educational materials that benefit both learners and instructors.”
