The lecture focused on her experiences studying in Korea and career opportunities, followed by a Q&A
session with learners
On August 10, KSI Campinas invited Lia Maurer, an alumna, to give a lecture on studying in Korea and career
opportunities after graduation. Lia Maurer, who was visiting Brazil, proposed the lecture to share her
experiences with learners at the KSI Campinas.
Lia Maurer studied Korean at KSI Campinas from 2016 to 2020. In 2021, she was selected as a scholarship
recipient of the Korea National University of Arts’ Art Major Asian plus (AMA+) program, where she pursued a
master’s degree in fine arts, graduating in August 2023. Currently, she works as a photographer in Korea, while
also participating in promotional and TV programs for various local governments.

The lecture, which was held at the Language Faculty auditorium of Campinas State University, lasted about 1.5
hours, starting at 11 a.m., and was attended by around 50 learners. Lia shared insights on Korean study
programs, scholarship opportunities, and tips on how to secure scholarships, as well as her experiences during
her master’s program. She also introduced career opportunities related to her major and offered advice on how
learners can maintain long-term connections with Korea.
Lia emphasized the importance of taking initiative: “If you have dreams and goals you want to achieve in Korea,
take the first step. Korea is full of opportunities for foreigners.” She expressed her hope that her experiences
would inspire more KSI learners and Brazilians to pursue their dreams and goals related to Korea.

During the Q&A session that followed, learners asked a wide range of questions, and the session continued beyond
the scheduled hour due to high interest. Even after the official event ended, learners continued to ask
questions individually.
Isabela, an architecture master’s student currently taking Sejong Korean 4A, shared, “I’m planning to study in
Korea for my PhD, so this lecture was incredibly helpful.” Ana, a Sejong Korean 1A student, said, “This lecture
made me want to visit Korea,” expressing her enthusiasm for learning Korean. Lee Jeong-hee, a KSI instructor who
has known Lia since 2016, said, “I feel proud that KSI Campinas and I played a part in helping Lia achieve her
dreams.”

The lecture inspired learners, especially those who had just started learning Korean, to dream of new
opportunities related to Korea. It also provided practical advice for those planning to study in Korea and
strengthened the sense of belonging among learners at KSI Campinas.
In addition to Lia Maurer, other KSI Campinas alumni have achieved significant success. These include Katherine
Soledad, who was selected as a 2024 Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) recipient, as well as Carolina, Matheus, and
Janaina, who were hired by Samsung Brazil. KSI Campinas plans to continue supporting learners in pursuing their
dreams through Korean language education.
