‘The Sejong Korean Language Assessment Multi-stage Adaptive Test (iSKA)’ is the first of its kind in the world
within the field of Korean language education, where the difficulty level of the questions is automatically
adjusted based on the test taker's proficiency. The internet-based test is designed in three stages. In the
first stage, participants are presented with 10 intermediate-level questions to gauge their Korean language
ability. From the second stage onward, the questions become either easier or more difficult, depending on each
participant’s proficiency level, and the assessment proceeds accordingly.
iSKA Test Design and Methodology
The iSKA assesses Korean language communication skills comprehensively across four areas: listening, reading,
writing, and speaking, through a total of 72 questions over 120 minutes. Compared to the previous Sejong Korean
Assessment (SKA), the iSKA has 41 fewer questions and is 50 minutes shorter, enhancing convenience for test
takers.

Test (iSKA)’ and ‘the Sejong Korean Assessment (SKA)’
The results of ‘the first Sejong Korean Language Assessment Multi-stage Adaptive Test (iSKA)’, which had over
300 participants, will be announced on October 4 via the Sejong Korean Assessment website
(https://ska.ksif.or.kr) and will be valid for two years. Detailed information about both the SKA and the iSKA
is available on the website, where users can also experience the actual test through the “Practice Test”
feature.

President Lee Hai-young of the KSIF shared, “After starting development in 2022 and going through multiple
preparations such as trial tests, we are delighted to be the first in the world to officially implement the
iSKA.” She further expressed, “KSIF will continue to manage the iSKA, allowing Korean learners worldwide to
objectively assess their Korean language proficiency, and we plan to gradually expand the scale of the test.”
