KSI Center France shares insights on the role and achievements of regional KSIs in Europe
From November 6 to 8, the KSI Workshop in Europe 2024 was held in Paris, France to promote exchange and
strengthen the capabilities of KSI staff in the European region. The workshop was attended by 85 participants
representing 34 KSIs across 24 European countries, including the Director of the Korean Cultural Center, France
and the Head of the Paris Office of the Korea Tourism Organization.
On the first day of the workshop, after the opening ceremony, the Director of the Korean Cultural Center, France
gave a special lecture titled “Tracing the Origins of the Korean Wave in Popular Culture.” Additionally, KSI
Center France presented on the topic “The Role and Achievements of Regional KSIs” and shared KSIF’s plans for
expanding the role of these regional KSIs.

On the second day, participants attended tailored, job-specific training sessions. In the Teachers’ Section,
lectures covered various methods of Korean language education, including EdTech-based approaches, advanced
teaching strategies for Korean Language Institutes (KSIs), and intercultural teaching techniques. Additionally,
participants explored methods for teaching Korean culture through the use of traditional hanji (Korean paper).
Meanwhile, in the Administrators’ Section, the agenda focused on essential operational topics. These included
annual project schedules, key project guidelines, strategies for promoting KSIs, and training on budget
planning, settlement, and operational evaluation. The program also offered group discussions and one-on-one
consulting sessions to address individual concerns and enhance administrative practices.
On the final day, there were presentations on best practices by KSI Tallinn, Estonia and KSI Bucharest, Romania.
Choi Ah-yoon, the administrator from KSI Tallinn, shared her thoughts. “It was a meaningful opportunity to share
field experiences with various KSIs in Europe and to build a sense of solidarity among the institutes in our
region.”

Through this workshop, the European KSI staff shared achievements in spreading Korean language and culture and
explored practical operational directions tailored to the learning needs of each country. Bae Jong-min,
Secretary General of KSIF, stated, “I hope that the KSI Workshop in Europe 2024 fosters even more active
communication and cooperation among European KSI staff. Moving forward, we will do our best through KSI Center
France to consistently support the demand for Korean language and culture education in each European country.”
