The King Sejong Institute Foundation(Acting President and Secretary General Bae Jong-min, hereafter referred to
as KSIF) has successfully concluded the 2024 KSI Korean Language Teacher Training Program (hereafter referred to
as the training program). The program aimed to nurture professional Korean language teachers abroad and was
conducted not only for local teachers already working at King Sejong Institutes who had not yet completed
teacher training, but also for local KSI learners aspiring to become Korean language teachers. The training was
held at 26 King Sejong Institutes in 17 countries.
* Participating countries : Germany, Russia, Mongolia, the United States, Vietnam, Belgium, Brazil, Slovenia,
United Arab Emirates, Azerbaijan, Eswatini, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Thailand, Turkmenistan
From June, individual KSIs selected participants, and the training program was conducted from August to
November. The curriculum included 100 hours of theoretical instruction and 20 hours of practical training.
Notably, this year saw 311 participants, a significant increase of 73 participants compared to 2023, reflecting
a growing interest in Korean language teaching.
Trà My Tô, a graduate of this year’s KSI Da Nang training program in Vietnam, shared her experience, saying, “I
originally majored in accounting, but while studying Korean at the KSI Korean Cultural Center in Vietnam, I
developed a passion for teaching the Korean language. Participating in the KSI Korean Language Teacher Training
Program was an incredible opportunity to learn about the Korean language and effective teaching methods from
leading experts in the field. I particularly remember the enthusiastic professors who guided us during practical
sessions, paying close attention to details like hand gestures and facial expressions.” She also said, “I plan
to pursue graduate studies in Korean Language Education in Korea, and I believe this training program will be
immensely beneficial for my academic journey.”
This year, beyond the main training program, a pilot initiative called the “Outstanding Graduate Invitation
Program” was conducted for graduates of the 2022–2023 training programs. This program offered lectures,
educational materials, exam fee coverage, and tailored feedback for the Level 3 Korean Language Teacher
Certification Exam. Cultural experiences that could be applied in teaching, such as hands-on activities in
Korean crafts, were also provided. This program achieved an impressive satisfaction rate of 97%.

eligible to work at KSIs in the future. As a program certified by the National Institute of the Korean Language,
graduates of the KSI Korean Language Teacher Training Program are eligible to take the Korean Language Teaching
Competency Test to obtain a Level 3 Korean Language Teacher Certification.
