The King Sejong Institute Foundation(Acting President and Secretary General Bae Jong-min, hereafter referred to
as KSIF), posted a notice titled “Guidelines for 2025 New KSI Designation Applications” on its official website
(https://www.ksif.or.kr) on November 15. To promote the project and improve understanding among prospective
applicant organizations, KSIF hosted a total of three information sessions.
The first session was held in person on December 9 at an educational facility in Seocho-gu, Seoul, and was also
broadcast live on KSIF's YouTube channel. More than 100 domestic participants, both online and offline, attended
the session. It included an overview of the 2025 KSI designation project, application methods and preparation
requirements, an introduction to KSI’s programs, and a Q&A segment.
For overseas applicants, KSIF conducted second and third sessions virtually via Zoom on December 13 and December
19, respectively. These sessions also drew significant interest, with over 80 participants joining to learn more
about the new KSI designation project.

The KSI is the premier brand for teaching the Korean language and culture abroad, supported by the Ministry of
Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Yoo In-chon). As of June 2024, a total of 256 KSIs operate across 88
countries worldwide. Institutions designated as KSIs receive various forms of support from KSIF, including
funding, educators, and other resources necessary for Korean language and culture education.
Universities, government organizations, and other institutions worldwide interested in operating a KSI can
submit their applications online via the KSI Integrated Business Management System website
([https://nbms.ksif.or.kr]) by 5:00 PM, January 31, 2025. The selection process for new KSIs involves document
review, on-site inspection, and final evaluation. The final results of the new KSI designations, reviewed by the
KSI Designation Review Committee—comprising experts in Korean language education, Korean culture, and regional
studies—will be announced in June 2025.
Bae Jong-min, Secretary General of KSIF, stated, “There are cases where Korean companies operating abroad run
KSIs to support their local employees and families, or where local governments operate KSIs in sister cities to
assist the local workforce. We hope for robust support to establish KSIs promptly in areas where there is a
demand for Korean language education but none currently exist.”
