KSIF Operates the Second Half of the 2025
Sejong Korean Language Assessment (SKA)
Speaking and Writing Rater Training Program
> Total of 851 trainees have completed the SKA Rater Training Program to date
> Average competition rate for new rater recruitment in 2025: 3.8 to 1
The King Sejong Institute Foundation (Acting President and Secretary General Choi Hyun-Seung, hereafter referred to as KSIF) held the opening ceremony for the 2025 Second Half Sejong Korean Language Assessment (SKA) Speaking and Writing Rater Training Program on July 8 at the Metaverse KSI with 60 trainees, SKA rater research staff, and KSIF Content Business Division Director Choi Yun-jeong in attendance. To cultivate professional raters for the speaking and writing sections of the SKA, KSIF plans to operate two new rater courses, two advanced courses, and three practical courses this year.
KSIF develops “SKA Professional Raters” through a three-stage process consisting of the new rater course, the advanced course, and the practical course. The new rater course recruits participants twice a year, targeting native Korean speakers residing in Korea who hold a Level 2 or higher Korean language teaching certificate and have more than 1,200 hours of Korean language teaching experience. This year’s recruitment recorded an average competition rate of 3.8 to 1, reflecting high interest.
In this new course, conducted from July 8 to 12, 60 participants selected for each of the speaking and writing sections received online training on the SKA and its scoring criteria via the Nuri KSI platform and live lectures.

The advanced course will be held this coming September for graduates of the new rater course, combining online and in-person training. In particular, the in-person sessions will include an evaluation for selecting scoring committee members. Based on a comprehensive review of evaluation scores and participation attitude, trainees with high scores will be given the opportunity to participate in actual scoring.

Trainees selected as scoring committee members are required to participate in the practical course. Newly introduced this year, the practical course included an overnight, two-day training session at the end of July to enhance inter-rater reliability. In addition, participants practiced scoring by evaluating sample answers from actual test-takers, gaining familiarity with the SKA’s scoring criteria and scoring system.
KSIF Secretary General Choi Hyun-Seung stated, “We will continue our efforts to cultivate highly reliable professional raters so that we can respond effectively to the large-scale administration of the SKA.”
