'Sejong Korean Culture 1' Textbook Published
and Ready for Sales
Consists of eight topics of Korean culture of which foreigners are curious about

The King Sejong Institute Foundation began to publish and sell 'Sejong Korean Culture 1', a textbook on Korean culture, in May.

Having been designed to allow foreigners who do not have much knowledge of the Korean culture to easily experience it, 'Sejong Korean Culture 1' introduces topics such as “Bibimbap”, “Doljanchi” and “Seoul Tour”, of which foreigners are curious about in an easy-to-understand manner.

This textbook has been developed based on the contents of Cultural chapters in 'Sejong Korean Culture 1', King Sejong Institute’s standard textbook, and contains 8 elements of Korean culture, including Korean greetings, cuisine and meetings.

The Foundation ran pilot lectures that utilized the 'Sejong Korean Culture 1' textbook last year at 30 King Sejong Institutes around the world (Surabaya, Indonesia; Minsk, Belarus, etc.) to assess and listen to the opinions regarding the contents, illustrations and images for them to be in line with elements of various local cultures. The Foundation has also developed a teachers’ guidebook, which will be provided as an e-book through “Nuri-Sejong Hakdang” (www.sejonghakdang.org).

Publication and sales of this textbook are conducted by Darakwon, a foreign language education publisher chosen through a contest earlier this year, and the textbooks can be purchased online or at domestic bookstores. Detailed inquiries about purchases may be directed to the Korean Language Publication department at Darakwon (www.darakwon.co.kr/books).

The Foundation anticipates that many foreigners will experience Korean culture and naturally widen their spectrum of understanding Korea through the publication of the textbook.
