From July 9th, Ulan-Ude KSI held a week-long ‘Sejong Summer Camp’ by Lake Baikal. Sejong Summer Camp is a training program of Korean language and culture classes. 28 KSI students and Russians who are interested in Korea participated in the event. On the second day of the camp, a calligraphy workshop was held where students wrote ‘Sarang Bang’ or ‘guest room’ in Korean which is a reception space for guests in a Korean traditional house. “It’s been a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the beauty of Korean alphabets via calligraphy,” said Alisa Pivovar, one of the participants, who was very satisfied with the program.
On June 27th, Jakarta 1 KSI, Indonesia held a ‘Korean Culture Day’ where 30 learners participated to make a Taegeuk pinwheel. They learnt the significance and history behind Korean flag and made their own Taegeuk pinwheel. “To commemorate memorial month of Korea, it was a meaningful event to share the significance of Korean flag to Indonesian learners,” said Kimberly, the manager of the event.
Tianjin 2 KSI, China, held a completion ceremony for the first half year where 20 students participated to make a keychain made with mother-of-pearl. Each participant made their own styles of Korean alphabet keychain. One of the participants said, “It was really interesting to actually make a keychain using a Korean word I learnt from last semester.”
