KSI Ho Chi Minh 3 selected to host ‘Webtoon Creation Experience Studio’

 

On November 12th, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, KSIF and Korea Manhwa Contents Agency unveiled ‘Overseas Webtoon Creation Experience Studio’ in KSI Ho Chi Minh 3, Vietnam. This is the first time to operate ‘Webtoon Creation Experience Studio’ abroad, which was operated only in Korea previously.

 

‘Overseas Webtoon Creation Experience Studio’ is a place to teach visitors how to create a webtoon by using a tablet PC. KSIF has decided to participate in this project in order to support more people in Vietnam to become interested in Korean language and culture via webtoons. Vietnam has been selected as the first overseas destination for the ‘Webtoon Creation Experience Studio’ since there is the spread of Korean wave and it has 55% of smartphone penetration rate.

 

The opening ceremony was attended by Yong-cheol Lee, director of Korea Manhwa Contents Agency, Bui Dinh Tien deputy chief of international cooperation department from Ho Chi Minh University of Industry, Van Nguyen, director of Comicola, Vietnam’s largest comics company, Hanji Lee, faculty director of KSI Ho Chi Minh 3 and more than 30 local students. After the opening ceremony, a lecture on webtoon production was conducted for students who aspire to become webtoon artists. Also a special lecture was held on the theme of ‘training professional webtoon artists in Vietnam and industry liaison for job creation.’ Hanji Lee, faculty director of KSI Ho Chi Minh 3 said, “We will continue to provide the webtoon experience training and promote Korean webtoon culture in Vietnam.”

 

Director Hyun-hwa Kang from KSIF said, “KSI Ho Chi Minh 3 as a starting point, I hope more people in Vietnam can experience Korean culture through webtoons.”
